Dry Skin Brushing For Beginners

You might have heard about this "new" beauty/health fad, but might not fully understand it, much like my postnatal self. But I am here to help!  I recently tried dry skin brushing as an attempt to tighten my sagging skin after giving birth. I lost pretty much all of the 35-40 lbs gained through pregnancy in the first month after giving birth. You can image how my results were not so sexy. Losing weight too fast causes extreme sagging of skin that is difficult to remove without surgery. Dry skin brushing is what helped me completely remove it all.  I deeply regret not taking before and after photos of my progress!

1. So... What is Dry Skin Brushing?
Skin brushing is a way to jump start your skin's natural detox cycle by stimulating your blood circulation in a very specific way. It sounds so easy, and in a way it is! For being so simple, it has so very many benefits!

2. Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing:

  • Stimulates Lymphatic system
  • Helps toxins leave the body
  • Strengthens Imune system
  • Improves circulation
  • Helps fight and reverse cellulite!
  • Creates firmer skin over time
  • Increases cell regeneration
  • Tightens skin, reduces wrinkles and excess skin.
  • Gently exfoliates skin for a softer finish
  • Gives skin a healthy glow
  • Relaxes like a massage while energizing you for the day.

3. What You Will Need:
A natural bristle spa brush. You will find these in stores where they sell shower sponges and pumice stones. They typically have a large wooden handle (for reaching your back) or a strap around the flat side to slip your hand into. But if you want to test it out with the instructions below, feel free to use your most gentle hairbrush very lightly until you make the trip out to target.

4. How To:
It's very important the direction that you brush the skin. Make sure you are using long sweeping overlapping strokes toward your lymph nodes. Don't know where those are? Start with your feet and go all the way up to your groin covering both legs. Then for your arms start at the hands and go all the way towards your armpits. For your neck and back, make sure to go in a downward motion, and for your belly always go clockwise to aid in the natural motion of digestion. Brush several times over the same area overlapping strokes. You should feel a major difference from one side that has been brushed compared to a side you are about to do. A similar effect that yoga has. Awakened, almost energized, yet calm.
